HMV’s resurgence continues, and it’s now announced that it’s reopening its flagship Oxford Street store in London.

We’ve covered several times on this site the story of HMV over the last few years, the last chain selling physical film media on the UK high street. Last year, the chain was able to open more stores, and while shops are concentrating more on vinyl LPs and collectables, they still have a hefty DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray collection.

In 2019, things weren’t going as well, and it ended up shutting what used to be its flagship store on Oxford Street. But now, in a surprise move, we get the news that the very same store – that’s most recently been masquerading as yet another American sweet shop – will be reopening, having been reacquired by the HMV group.

The plan will be to open it in the chains new HMV Shop format, and thus the layout of the store will be different to how it was. No timescale has, as of yet, been confirmed for the return to Oxford Street. The shop will reopen this year though.

We’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
