Halloween (2018) director David Gordon Green’s The Exorcist: Believer has a first trailer – here’s a look at the Blumhouse horror reboot.

Bringing the possession-focused tale of William Friedkin’s The Exorcist to the present day, The Exorcist: Believer looks like a reboot in a similar vein to director David Gordon Green’s Halloween. The filmmaker also serves as co-writer (alongside Peter Sattler) and executive producer on the movie. Also producing is Jason Blum, under his famous Blumhouse label.

The legacy sequel has set a fitting release date of Friday 13th October this year. 2023 marks 50 years since Friedkin’s film was released, shocking audiences with its taboo-breaking scares.

In the new film, Leslie Odom Jr. plays single father Victor Fielding, whose daughter Angela (Lidya Jewett) goes missing with her friend Katherine (Olivia Marcum).  They return three days later with no memories of what happened to them, but it soon becomes clear that a terrible evil is involved.

Much like David Gordon Green’s Halloween saw the return of Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode, Ellen Burstyn is part of the cast of The Exorcist: Believer. Victor needs all the help he can get, and must turn to someone who’s encountered possession before – Burstyn’s Chris MacNeil.

Also part of the cast are Hereditary's Ann Dowd, The Righteous Gemstones’ Jennifer Nettles, and Tony winner Norbert Leo Butz.
