Freddie Prinze Jr is set to reprise his role as Ray in the new I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel.
I Know What You Did Last Summer is the next 90s horror franchise to make a flashy return, following in the footsteps of Scream, which was successfully rebooted with a sequel in 2022. We reported in July that the new I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot/sequel had found its cast, but there have been a few changes and an exciting new addition to the line-up.
Firstly, Camila Mendes has exited the project due to scheduling conflicts but has been replaced by Bodies Bodies Bodies actor Chase Sui Wonders.
The more exciting bit of news ā at least if you’re a fan of the 1997 original teen slasher classic ā is that Freddie Prinze Jr is to reprise the role of Ray, as reported by Variety. The new I Know What You Did Last Summer is seemingly following the Scream template of acting as both a reboot and a sequel and bringing back so-called legacy characters.
Variety also reports that Jennifer Love-Hewitt, the original film’s final girl of sorts, is in talks to return to play Julie as well. Jennifer Kaytin Robinson will direct the film ā she also co-wrote the script with Sam Lansky based on a draft by Leah McKendrick.
There are no specific plot details to share quite just yet, but the original, 1997 film followed four teenagers who, after a hit-and-run incident a year before, are stalked by a menacing killer wielding a hook. The teenagers started getting ominous letters and notes, all stating “I know what you did last summer,” so we expect the new cast to receive text messages with a similar message, or perhaps really creative TikTok videos.
More on I Know What You Did Last Summer as we hear it.
