Jake Gyllenhaal is back in the land of superhero films for Prophet, and we’ve got details of the movie right here.

Just as it feels like we’re getting to, or even past, superhero saturation point, another one joins the queue. And, well, it’s a long queue.

Prophet will be adapted from Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld’s comic. If you’re unfamiliar with the source material, it tells the story of a supersolider engineered during World War One (no parallels to a certain iconic Marvel character there). The film will change things slightly, following “a man who volunteers for a German experiment near the end of World War II in order to feed his family. After a bombing buries him alive and traps him underground for 20 years, he reawakens in 1965 to a world that has moved on without him. His daughter now resents him while KGB agents are after him to create new super-soldiers from his blood”. So that’s nice.

Gyllenhaal will star as the title character, as you might exepct.

Extraction director Sam Hargrave will helm the film from a script originally written by Marc Guggenheim, which was in turn rewritten by 300 scribe Kurt Johnstad.

Prophet will begin filming soon, we’ll keep you updated as we hear more.
