Naomi Harris and Moonlight director Barry Jenkins have had conversations about a James Bond spin-off film.
The last time we can recall the possibility of a spin-off from the James Bond franchise was when Halle Berry took on the role of Jinx in Die Another Day. At that stage, there were reportedly words about a possible spin-off for her character.
Clearly, that never happened.
That said, it seems chats are taking place about a different spin-off, a movie set around the character of Moneypenny. She’s currently played by Naomi Harris in the Bond films, and she’s told Coming Soon that her Moonlight director, Oscar-winner Barry Jenkins, is keen to get a film moving.
“He’s wanted to do a bad ass, kick-ass kind of action thing with Moneypenny which I’m all for actually”, she said.
“I got together with Barbara Broccoli, our producer, and I was like let’s make this happen but she wasn’t so down with it”, Harris continued. But the door’s not entirely shut it seems. “The conversation has started at least and we’re continuing it here so who knows”, she added.
The immediate priority for Broccoli and her team is No Time To Die, the next James Bond film. That arrives next April, and is likely to see the departure of Daniel Craig as 007. After that, might there be a gap for some kind of spin-off? It’s not been the done thing in the world of Bond, but never say never. Again.
