Jennifer Lawrence will star in and produce an adaptation of Why Don’t You Love Me? More on the project here.

Jennifer Lawrence is set to return to comedy once again, this time in league with A24 for Why Don’t You Love Me? The newly-announced project will be backed by A24 and based on Paul B. Rainey‘s graphic novel of the same name. So far, no other casting has been announced, nor do we know who will be helming the film at this early stage.

Robert Funke, the scribe of On Becoming A God In Central Florida has been tapped up to write the script.

Lawrence possesses comic talents in abundance and she’s been putting them to good use of late. Her last released film was 2023’s No Hard Feelings which was a straight-up comedy that had a good crack at relaunching the genre in cinemas and fared pretty well too.

Also, she’s currently filming Die, My Love for Lynne Ramsay, a project which is being dubbed as a horror comedy, ‘set in a remote forgotten rural area where a mother struggles to maintain her sanity as she battles with psychosis.’

Jennifer Lawrence’s next project looks like she might well be painting with the same colour palette. Why Don’t You Love Me? is described as comedy but looks like it might contain some weird ideas too, which is to be expected given that arthouse specialist A24 is the studio behind the film. Released in 2023, the graphic novel that the film is based on is a comedy ‘focused on a couple struggling through their marriage while feeling like something is not quite right in their reality.’

The project furthers Lawrence’s relationship with A24, given that it comes just a few weeks after the announcement that she will star in The Wives, ‘a Real Housewives-inspired murder mystery’ to be co-produced by Apple Studios and A24.

Given how competitive the bidding was said to be for that project, we could see that one getting fast-tracked ahead of Why Don’t You Love Me? although last we heard, that film didn’t yet have a director either.

Either way, it’s a promising slate for Lawrence, an actor that continues to push towards interesting and original projects. Earlier in her career she became the face of several big franchises but these days, she’s using her juice as a producer to push projects into gear that perhaps wouldn’t otherwise happen without her star power. We’ll bring you more on Why Don’t You Love Me? as we hear it.
