We’re just over a year away from the release of Lionsgate’s John Rambo, it turns out. As per Deadline, the studio has set the film to open on the 4th June 2027.

Good news is that it has a release date, but the bad news is that it’s opening a week after Shawn Levy’s highly anticipated Star Wars: Starfighter. Even with The Mandalorian And Grogu not quite meeting expectations, critical or box office, Starfighter has a lot of buzz around it already so we’ll see how well John Rambo can hold against Ryan Gosling’s space pilot.

John Rambo will take the character made iconic by Sylvester Stallone and explore his younger years in Vietnam, before the events of First Blood. He’ll be played by Noah Centineo and Sisu’s Jalmari Helander is directing from a script by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani. Stallone is executive producing alongside Anthony & Joe Russo, Trevor Short, Dallas Sonnier and Amanda Presmyk.

David Harbour and James Franco will also star in the film, with Harbour playing Major Trautman and Franco in an undisclosed role. Overall, the plot details are still a little fuzzy for the film. Filming for John Rambo finished earlier this month and the team now has over a year to finesse the movie to the best possible version of itself.

We’ll see on 4th June what that looks like.
