The killer doll movie M3gan releases this week in the UK to rave reviews and a sequel is already underway.

M3gan releases on Friday here in the UK, with anticipation high for Gerard Johnstone’s killer doll flick following a string of great reviews. The film’s co-writer Akela Cooper has already suggested that an unrated cut will release at some point given that the film’s gorier script made it to the cameras before the film was remodelled in post-production to reach a younger audience. As well as a different cut coming to home formats or maybe even cinemas, it looks like we’re getting more M3gan in the form of a sequel too.

Deadline are reporting that Universal is keen on a sequel having already supported the film with a sole theatrical release, bucking the trend of some of its recent horror releases such as FirestarterHalloween Kills and Halloween Ends which released simultaneously in cinemas and on the streaming platform, Peacock.

How long M3gan runs exclusively for in cinemas will depend on its earnings, but in the US at least, it will be 17 days although it will likely be extended given that the buzz surrounding the film should translate into larger box office potential.

The studio’s positive stance towards the movie will only have been strengthened by the positive word of mouth meaning that a sequel is a certainty, with development already underway, albeit in the early stages. You can catch our review of the film here ahead of its general release on Friday.
