Robbie will be reuniting with Bombshell director, Jay Roach to explore the Ocean’s 11 story, decades before the mainline films occur.
After she’s done with the Barbie movie (that’s currently shooting), Margot Robbie has signed up to star in a prequel movie to Ocean’s 11 and its subsequent sequels. According to Deadline, the story will be mostly placed in Europe and will be set decades before George Clooney’s Danny Ocean and his pals set about engaging in outlandish heists and hijinks.
Little else is known about the project at this point, apart from a slated production window that is reportedly set to begin in spring of next year. With the prequel being set some time before the mainline franchise, we expect that some of the key players from those films will be recast and return as younger versions. That may even extend to characters from the 2018 all-female spin-off, Ocean’s Eight.
The Oceans films are a reimagining of the original 1960 film, which featured Frank Sinatra and other members of the legendary Rat Pack. Ocean’s 11 and its subsequent sequels remain memorable for the star-studded names that they pulled into their casts so as such, finding who’s appearing in the ensemble for the new film will be interesting indeed.
We’ll bring you more on this one as we hear it.
