May 2025 will mark the release of Margot Robbie’s follow-up to Barbie – A Big Bold Beautiful Journey.

Margot Robbie has all the ingredients necessary to be a world-beating movie star right now: her last film, Barbie, was the most commercially successful movie of 2023 and it was a project that she also produced. LuckyChap, Robbie’s production company is developing all kinds of interesting projects and Robbie herself is attached to some major franchises that are grinding into motion: A Pirates of The Caribbean film, an Oceans’ Eleven prequel, An Avengelyne movie. Then there’s the LuckyChap takes on The Sims and Monopoly, two huge game titles that could yet feature Robbie in front of the camera.

Before all of that though, the actor will be appearing with Colin Farrell and director Koganda to make A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, an ‘imaginative tale of two strangers and the unbelievable journey that connects them’ according to a synopsis published by Deadline. The talent at play here really is impressive. The script has been penned by Seth Reiss, the writer of 2022’s The Menuthe delicious 2022 satirical drama. As mentioned, A Big Bold And Beautiful Journey will be helmed by Kogonada, the director of After Yang, the acclaimed drama which premiered at Sundance in 2022.

As well as Robbie and Farrell, Lily Rabe, Jodie Turner-Smith, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Hamish Linklater also star. Now we have a release date for the project with Sony announcing that A Big Bold Beautiful Journey will be arriving in cinemas on May 9th, 2025. That sets the film to release a week after Marvel’s Thunderbolts and you get the sense that Sony are planning some high-quality counter-programming here.

After all, Blake Lively’s It Ends With Us adopted a similar release strategy in the past few weeks, arriving hot on the heels of Deadpool & Wolverine and making a sizeable box office splash. Sony, it seems, is going to employ the same strategy again and with the star power of Robbie and Farrell in place, there’s every chance that it can repeat the same trick. We still don’t know too much about the film, apart from the rather vague logline that promises a focus ‘on two strangers and the unlikely way that their paths align.’

When we do hear more, you can be sure we’ll let you know.
