Zach Cregger is back with his version of Resident Evil and the first trailer promises a lot of running, phone dial tones and creepy limbs sticking out of places.
We live in times when it’s not just first look images or trailers that get released, we’re now also getting fonts for movie titles. The font for Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil adaptation was released a few days ago, but thankfully, we’ve now got an actual proper look at the film.
Take a look at the very first Resident Evil trailer:
And here’s an official synopsis: From the mind of visionary filmmaker Zach Cregger (Weapons, Barbarian) comes a thrilling — and terrifying — reinvention of the Resident Evil franchise. In an all-new story, Resident Evil follows Bryan (Austin Abrams), a medical courier who unwittingly finds himself in an action-packed, non-stop race for survival as one fateful, horrifying night collapses around him in chaos.
Thrilling? Terrifying? A new era of evil? Count me in! I was a big fan of both Barbarian and Weapons so if Resident Evil is anywhere near as good as those, we’re in for a heck of a time at the movies.
That being said, Resident Evil does seem to have a far more simple premise than Cregger’s previous films. It’s a guy finding himself alone in a tricky situation when a bunch of infected start running around at night. It’s nothing we haven’t seen before but Cregger has proved himself to be a very confident director, so I’m looking forward to this one.
Resident Evil is based on Capcom’s series of video games and this is now the eight live-action film of the games and the second reboot after 2021’s Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City.
Austin Abrams stars with Zach Cherry, Kali Reis and Paul Walter Hauser in supporting roles. Cregger has penned the script together with Shay Hatten and Roy Lee, who produced Barbarian and Weapons as well as a huge chunk of the biggest horror movies of the 2000s, is also producing here.
Resident Evil will hit cinemas 18th September.
