Barbarian, from writer/director Zach Cregger, is finally getting a physical media release, four years after the film first arrived.
For a breakthrough film, Zach Cregger’s 2022 movie Barbarian hadn’t always been too easy to find. It debuted originally on Disney+, where it quickly become something of an undiscovered, and then discovered, gem. Then it dropped off Disney+, and became a lot harder to find, with no physical media release available, even as Cregger’s next film – Weapons – became a sensation.
Barbarian has reappeared and is available to buy and rent digitally in the UK, but finally, four years after the movie debut, it’s getting an actual physical disc release.
From what I can gleam, it’s just coming to the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray format initially, although there’ll be a Blu-ray version in the box too. I’ve just not found a listing that suggests the Blu-ray is being sold separately, but it may yet be. Very helpful news story this.
The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release is definite, though. It’s arriving in the UK on 7th September 2026.

As for the film? It’s hard to talk about if you’re unfamiliar with it, as – along with Weapons – it’s a dish very much best served cold. The synopsis reads as follows, it that helps…
Traveling to Detroit for a job interview, a young woman books a rental home. But when she arrives late at night, she discovers that the house is double-booked, and a strange man is already staying there. Against her better judgement, she decides to spend the evening. Before long, mysterious sounds draw her to other parts of the house where terrifying discoveries prove there’s a lot more for her to fear than just an unexpected house guest.
It’s surprising (and depressing) how many films from the last few years haven’t had a disc release, at least in the UK. Films such as American Fiction, The Whale, Coda, Horizon An American Saga – Chapter One and more are very much at the whims of streaming services at the moment. In the case of Barbarian, at least there’s now a way to watch the film no matter what mood the streamers are in…
