Monk is the latest series to get a belated film sequel, and here’s the trailer for Mr Monk’s Last Case.

Monk was a wonderful show that saw Tony Shalhoub take on the title role of Adrian Monk, a detective whose obsessive compulsive disorder made him almost impossible to work with, but also meant that he was unusually skilled in noticing the little details when solving a series of impossible crimes.

An overarching story which ran through all eight seasons was Monk’s quest to discover who murdered his beloved wife Trudy.

The show ran from from 2002 to 2009, and the news of the sequel film landed earlier this year.

All of the main cast – Shalhoub, Traylor Howard, Ted Levine, Jason Gray-Stanford, Melora Hardin and Hector Elizondo – are returning as Natalie Teeger, Captain Leland Stottelemeyer, Randy Disher, Trudy Monk and Dr Neven Bell, respectively. Bitty Schram, who played Monk’s first assistant Sharona Fleming, will appear in flashbacks.

Monk’s daughter Molly, originally played by Alona Tal, is now played by Caitlin McGee and new character Rick Eden is played by James Purefoy.

We also have a short synopsis, which reads as follows:

Monk returns to solve one last, very personal case involving his beloved stepdaughter Molly, a journalist preparing for her wedding.

Creator Andy Breckman has written the script, with regular series director Randy Zisk back behind the camera.

Mr Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie will be released on the Peacock streaming service on the 8th December.
