Expect more casting announcements to follow in short order for the new Alien, as the film heads towards cameras.

Having made its mind up about the future of the Alien franchise, Disney is now moving forwards pretty quickly with the new film in the saga.

The long-running series remains one of the most valuable properties in what was once the 20th Century Fox stable and knowing that, Disney has spent some time mooting all of the various options on the table for the future of Alien.

Plenty of choices were available, including a return to the mainline Ellen Ripley-focused narrative, a continuation of Ridley Scott’s prequel films, or the reboot option.

Along with Noah Hawley’s planned TV series, we learned back in March that Don’t Breathe director Fede Alvarez would be directing the first Alien film under Disney’s 20th Century Studios banner, a film that will be heading straight to streaming. We also know that Cailee Spaeny is starring in the film, taking on the role of a female lead, presumably to echo the spirit of the original movies. Spaeny is the star of Sofia Coppola’s upcoming Elvis & Priscilla.

According to Colliderwe’ve now learned that the film is going under the working title of Alien: Romulus and is set to shoot in Budapest, Hungary on February 6th.

Ridley Scott is producing the project which is expected to move away from existing characters and into unexplored territory for the saga. With production just around the corner, we expect to hear more details soon so we’ll keep you posted as they emerge. Hopefully, it can capture something of the soft Predator reboot, Prey
