The long-rumoured Big Little Lies season 3 seems to be happening according to Nicole Kidman. More details below.
It’s been a while since we last saw the ladies of Monterey. The Monterey Five, played by Resse Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Zoë Kravitz and Laura Dern, were still reeling from the intense murder investigation they faced in season two of the HBO hit show in 2019. It now looks as though Big Little Lies season 3 really will happen.
Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon got together for a chat for Vanity Fair and the talk quickly turned to Big Little Lies. Witherspoon revealed that Kidman had called her to ask if Big Little Lies season 3 was happening and had apparently also rang all her co-stars. No new season was in the works at the time.
“But we are now!” Kidman revealed. “We’re moving fast and furious, and Liane [Moriarty, writer of the original book] is delivering the book. Yeah, and we’re in good shape.”

Granted, it’s not an official green light on Big Little Lies season 3, but as it’s coming from Kidman herself, it seems pretty solid evidence that one is at least planned. HBO hasn’t officially confirmed a third season, but we’re hoping Kidman’s comments will eventually be proven true.
Season one was based on Moriarty’s novel of the same name, and after the success of the show, HBO asked the writer to come up with a new story to keep it going. Moriarty wrote a new novella which became the basis for the second season and it looks like season three, if it happens, will also be based on Moriarty’s writing.
The star-studded cast for the series has also included Alexander Skarsgård, Meryl Streep, Kathryn Newton and Iain Armitage. The series won several Emmys, Golden Globes, SAG awards and Critics Choice awards to mention a couple of its accolades.
