Intense thriller Nightsleeper comes to the BBC in September, and hereās the trailer for the train-based series.
One of the most thrilling scenes to come out of a BBC drama in recent years was the opening of Jed Mercurioās Bodyguard, in which the titular character foils a terrorist on a train.
New BBC thriller Nightsleeper takes this to the extreme by setting all six episodes on a high speed train. Think of it as Under Siege 2: Dark Territory, but on a modern BBC budget. And with no Steven Seagal.
The synopsis reads as follows:
Nightsleeper is a six-part series in which a train is ‘hackjacked’ while travelling from Glasgow to London, and suddenly finds itself on an uncertain journey with an even less certain destination. Part fast-moving heart-in-the-mouth action-adventure and part twisty-turny whodunnit detective story, it’s a roller coaster ride set across a single night where no-one is ever quite who they seem. Leading the fight are Joe Roag (Joe Cole), an off-duty police officer who is a passenger on the train, and Abby Aysgarth (Alexandra Roach), the acting technical director at the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC). To stop the train, they’ll have to work out exactly who’s behind this. But are they fighting a hostile state, a terrorist organisation, or organised crime? Who is the self-styled ‘Driver’ who seems to be one step ahead of their every solution?
As Abby and Joe ā who have never met in person ā try to establish a bond that will withstand everything the night throws at them, will Joe’s fellow passengers help or hinder their desperate efforts? Could one of them even be involved? Who can Abby and Joe really trust?
The ensemble cast also includes Alex Ferns, Sharon Small, James Cosmo, David Threlfall, Daniel Cahill, Lois Chimimba , Gabriel Howell, Katie Leung, Leah MacRae, Ruth Madeley, Adam Mitchell, Pamela Nomvete, Scott Reid, Sharon Rooney and Parth Thakerar.
The series is written by The Control Room creator Nick Leather and Laura Grace, with episodes directed by Jamie Magnus Stone and John Hayes.
All six episode of Nightsleeper will be available to watch on BBC iPlayer from 15th September.
