Comedy mystery Wicked Little Letters will follow the hunt for the author of a series of obscene letters, and here are the first details.

Olivia Colman and Jessie Buckley certainly feel as though they are two of the finest actors putting work out at the moment. Colman is an Oscar winner and it is surely only a matter of time before Buckley joins her, having been nominated for her performance alongside Colman in Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Lost Daughter.

Now, the two will play reluctant detectives in Wicked Little Letters. The official synopsis for the new film reads as follows:

Edith Swan has little in common with fiery Rose Gooding – aside from their being neighbours in the seaside town of Littlehampton in the 1920s. One day, Edith and others in the town start receiving scandalous letters written with foul language as eccentric as it is obscene, and the finger of suspicion immediately falls on Rose. As Rose stands to lose her freedom and the custody of her daughter, and outrageous letters continue to blight the town, police officer Gladys Moss begins to suspect something is amiss. Together with a group of resourceful women, Gladys endeavours to solve the mystery, liberate Rose, and catch the real culprit.

Colman and Buckley play Edith and Rose, respectively, with further casting yet to be announced.

Thea Sharrock directs from a screenplay by comic actor Jonny Sweet.
