Peter Farrelly’s next film, Ricky Stanicky, has been picked up by Prime Video, and the first casting has been confirmed.

Peter Farrelly’s most recent film, The Greatest Beer Run Ever, failed to hit big, a stark contrast to 2018’s Green Book, which netted Oscars for Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor for Mahershala Ali.

Now, he is directing his next film, Ricky Stanick, which is described as a throwback to the kind of screwball comedies he made with his brother Bobby (such as There’s Something About Mary). The plot concerns three friends who invent a fourth in order to get out of tricky situations. When their wives start asking questions, they hire an actor to play him.

John Cena is set to play the title character, opposite Zac Efron and Jermaine Fowler.

Farrelly directs from a screenplay Brian Jarvis and Jim Freeman, who rewrote Jeff Bushell’s original spec script.

Ricky Stanicky will commence production in Australia later this month and will be released via Amazon Prime Video, we’ll keep you updated as we hear more.
