The last 12 days of Roger Federer’s tennis career is the subject of a new documentary, from Asif Kapadia and Joe Sabia.

The final 12 days of tennis star Roger Federer’s career will be the focus of an upcoming documentary, which is the latest such film around the life of a sports star.

Prime Video is backing the film, which is thus far untitled. It’s being directed by the mighty Asif Kapadia, along with Joe Sabia. According to the blurb, this was originally intended to be a home video that wasn’t going to be made publicly available. But Roger Federer changed his mind.

As per the official announcement of the Roger Federer film, he said that “during my career, I tended to shy away from having cameras around me and my family, especially during important moments. But I didn’t see the harm in shooting this as it was never intended for the public. However, we captured so many powerful moments, and it transformed into a deeply personal journey. I am happy to be partnering with Prime Video because of their vast global reach and significant presence in the film industry. This ensures that the story of my final days in tennis will resonate with both tennis enthusiasts and broader audiences worldwide.”

It’s not just Federer on camera either, with the likes of Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray also interviewed.

No sign of a cinema release for this particular film, which is going to debut directly on the Prime Video service. No release date has been announced as of yet either, but were we tempted to have a bet, somewhere around peak tennis season wouldn’t be a bad place to put a pound or two. Not that we’d encourage you to do so.

More on the film as we hear it. And yay for more Asif Kapadia work, as anyone who’s seen Senna and Amy will surely co-sign.
