Channing Tatum and Kirsten Dunst lead the cast of director Derek Cianfrance’s crime drama, with Roofman set to debut in 2025.

There’ll be plenty of folks out there keeping an eye out for director Derek Cianfrance’s next film, partly because we’ve had to wait so long for it. It’s been eight years since he made 2016’s The Light Between Oceans, and although he;s since been attached to the odd project (such as the upcoming Wolf Man, eventually taken on by Leigh Whannell), nothing ever came to fruition.

Cianfrance is the director behind Blue Valentine and The Place Beyond The Pines, so any project he attaches himself to will be of interest to people who liked those movies. His latest film, Roofman, stars Channing Tatum and Kirsten Dunst and tells the true story of Jeffrey Manchester, a career criminal who made a habit of breaking into shops through their roofs (hence the film’s name). Romance struck when he met a Toys R Us employee while robbing one of its stores one day.

According to World Of Reel, Miramax has set up the film for release on the 3rd of October 2025 – that’s smack in the middle of next year’s awards season, suggesting that it sees the film as a contender for that year’s shiniest gongs. The film certainly sounds like it could charm audiences. While living in a Toys R Us store, Manchester survived by foraging kids’ snacks and keeping trim at night by cycling around the aisles.

Tatum certainly has the charisma to make Manchester an anti-hero we can root for. We’re already looking forward to seeing how the chemistry between Dunst and Tatum develops, and with Peter Dinklage also featuring, this is all set up very nicely for a memorable movie. We’ll have to wait almost a year though, but if we hear more in the interim, we’ll let you know here.
