Jigsaw will be back inflict pain once more in Saw XI, and the new film is arriving in 2024: more details here.

It is rare for any franchise to reach ten films. It is even rarer for the tenth film to receive some of the best reviews of the series.

Such was the case with Saw X, the film that put Tobin Bell front and centre one again as malicious vigilante John Kramer/Jigsaw.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, given the impressive box office returns of Saw X, Lionsgate has confirmed that it is pressing ahead with Saw XI.

You won’t have to wait long to see it either, as the official Saw social media accounts posted an image stating the sequel would be with us in just over nine months time, on the 27th September 2024.

This harks back to the heyday of Saw in the early 2000s, when there would be a new sequel like clockwork every Halloween.

The creative team has not yet been confirmed, but director Kevin Greutert and writers Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger are expected to return.

It is also likely that Bell will reprise his role, as Saw X pivoted around his story.

Set between the events of Saw and Saw 2, the film follows Kramer as he makes one desperate, last ditch attempt to cure his cancer. He undergoes an expensive treatment that turns out to be a scam. He proceeds to kidnap the fraudsters and subject them to his particularly nasty brand of justice, with the help of his protégé Amanda, played by Shawnee Smith.

From the much hyped eyeball trap, plastered all over the marketing materials, to limb amputation and self inflicted brain surgery, the traps are as vile and creative as ever. The big difference with Saw X was the brilliant decision to put Bell, brooding and machiavellian, right at the nexus of the narrative.

The mythos and chronology of the Saw universe is so complex at this point, it will be fascinating to see where they decide to go next.
