Scarlett Johansson for ‘genre-bending’ The Bride of Frankenstein reimagining

Scarlett Johansson is set to star in a futuristic updating of the horror classic The Bride Of Frankenstein – more details right this way.

A few years ago when Universal was revving up its doomed Dark Universe project, word was that we would be getting a Bride Of Frankenstein film starring Angelina Jolie. Like the rest of the grand plans for that cinematic universe, that project fell away with the failure of 2017’s The Mummy to connect with audiences. Now though, it seems that the Bride will be getting reincarnated after all, though in a different and rather interesting way.

The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Scarlett Johansson will star in a ‘genre-bending’ science-fiction reimagining of James Whale’s classic horror flick. What’s more, Universal isn’t involved with this incarnation at all, with A24 producing, along with Apple. The two companies are developing something of a partnership, having produced several films together, including Sofia Coppola’s latest On The Rocks (which launches on AppleTV+ today, as it happens).

The ‘Bride’ project certainly sounds interesting to us. Also named is the director for the film: Sebástian Lelio, whose film A Fantastic Woman won the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar in 2018, will helm the movie.

More news on this one as we have it.
