A new trailer has emerged for Secret Level, a videogame-themed, animated anthology series from the creators of Love, Death & Robots.
Hopes are high that Amazon’s upcoming Secret Level series will be that rarest of unicorns: an incredible video game adaptation. Of course, these rarities do exist, HBO’s The Last Of Us being generally regarded as proof of this but if we were to attempt to list all of the bad video game adaptations out there, well, there’s simply not enough room on the internet.
Spearheaded by Deadpool director Tim Miller, Secret Level will offer a series of episodic stories that cover a range of popular videogame titles. The show is said to be aimed at a mature audience and the animation looks incredible, which we’d expect given that this is coming from some of the talented folks who brought us the wonderful Love, Death & Robots.
The list of games that have been adapted for the opening series includes some heavy hitters, too: Armored Core, Crossfire, Dungeons & Dragons, Exodus, Honor of Kings, Mega Man, New World: Aeternum, Pac-Man, Sifu, Spelunky, The Outer Worlds, Unreal Tournament, and Warhammer 40,000.
Sifu is an incredible concept for a martial arts movie, so seeing it adapted into a dramatic episode of TV is likely to be a highlight. And who isn’t excited about Pac-Man getting some time in the sun after all these years? There’s even the strange appearance of the recently-withdrawn Concord getting an episode too. Sony’s recently-canned hero shooter which reportedly cost $400m to produce and was shelved just a few weeks after release has an episode too. Watching that game being briefly resurrected as an episode of drama along with all of the hopes, dreams and hard work that brought it to life is sure to be something of a surreal viewing experience, especially knowing that it has already been abandoned.
The voice cast is pretty amazing too. You can expect Keanu Reeves, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Kevin Hart, along Gabriel Luna and none other than, Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) along with plenty of other names. Here’s the new trailer below. The series releases on Amazon Prime Video on December 10th.
