Alexandre Aja is returning for more alligator action as Crawl 2 starts taking shape at Paramount. More on the sequel below.

2019’s Crawl was an effective thriller in which Kaya Scodelario and Barry Pepper found themselves going head-to-head with some nasty alligators. The film scared up an impressive $91.5m at the box office on a budget of just $14m.

Talks about a sequel started almost right away, but the last we heard about any concrete plans was in 2021 when director Alexandre Aja talked about the possibility of returning to gator-infested waters with a brand new story and new characters.

Now, The Hollywood Reporter reports that Aja is officially on board for Crawl 2 and Paramount Pictures is looking to shoot the film this fall in Europe. Andrew Deutschman and Jason Pagan are on script duties, but there’s no official word on the plot yet. However, THR seems to have sources who suggest the action could take place in New York City this time. It looks like Scoledario and Pepper won’t be returning either. Sam Raimi will produce as he did with the first film.

Aja is also getting ready to release Never Let Go into cinemas this September. The horror thriller will follow Halle Berry’s mother as she fights to keep her family safe from an unknown threat outside.

More on Crawl 2 as we hear it.
