From director Mat Whitcross comes Sleeping Lions, a new UK film set to star Jonathan Pryce and Nick Mohammed. More here.
Hiding away on Disney+, and well worth digging into the menu system to find it, is the film See How They Run. Starring the brilliant Saoirse Ronan in a rare comedy role, itās a particularly good British murder mystery comedy ā a combination we rarely see these days.
Hang on, though! Here might be another. Sleeping Lions is a new film based on a 1951 novel by Cyril Hare: An English Murder. The adaptation will update the bookās events to the present day, weāre told.
James Roblin is currently penning the adapted screenplay Directing the movie will be Mat Whitecross. The plan is for shooting to take place in the UK later this year. What’s more, distribution is sorted, too: Sky has dug into its coffers and will be distributing the film. Hopefully, we get a cinema release before it heads to Sky Cinema.
Two pieces of casting news are in place so far. Jonathan Pryce, who’s been seen in the wonderful Slow Horses recently, is taking one of the two lead roles. Opposite him will be Nick Mohammed, whose work includes The Martian, The Kid Who Would Be King, Bridget Jonesā Baby and Christopher Robin (he provided the voice of Piglet).

Mat Whitcross has announced the news on his social media account (Instagram), describing Sleeping Lions as “a macabre murder mystery starring my dream cast.”
He also confirmed that its producers are Cyrus Massoudi and Rupert Lloyd, along with Fiona Neilson. And in terms of plot? He teases that “It’s a dark, twisted Xmas tale about the dangerous rise of fascism around the world, sadly becoming more urgent and topical by the day.”
We’ll keep you posted as we hear more on Sleeping Lions. Might be pushing it to get a 2025 release date, though.
