Completed yet shelved by Warner Bros Discovery, Snowpiercer season 4 will finally get an airing thanks to a deal with AMC.

Another victim of cost-cutting at Warner Bros Discovery, sci-fi series Snowpiercer was unceremoniously scrapped in January 2023 – a decision made after production had already completed on what was planned as its fourth and final season. Snowpiercer therefore joined the likes of Batgirl and Coyote Vs Acme in a grim list of tax write-offs at the studio.

There’s now good news, however: AMC has acquired the rights to Snowpiercer, and there are now plans to stream the first three seasons on AMC+ this year, while the fourth and final season will finally stream in 2025.

Snowpiercer is an edge-of-your-seat thrill ride with a loyal fanbase – similar to the passionate fandoms we serve across our biggest franchise series – and a welcome addition to AMC and AMC+,” said AMC executive Ben Davis in a statement to Variety. “We look forward to giving viewers an opportunity to binge the first three seasons later this year, in anticipation of the arrival of a remarkable fourth season helmed by Paul Zbyszewski and this stellar cast, which will premiere in 2025.”

Based on the graphic novel of the same name – previously adapted into the 2013 film by director Bong Joon-ho – the Snowpiercer series has a starry cast, which includes Daveed Diggs, Jennifer Connelly and Sean Bean. That quality ensemble made the show’s shelving all the more surprising, especially as season four was already conceived as the concluding chapter in the saga.

Then again, Bong Joon-ho’s Snowpiercer never had the best of luck – acquired by The Weinstein Company in 2012, the film’s western release was delayed for months when studio boss Harvey Weinstein insisted on extensive cuts and other changes. Snowpiercer was eventually released uncut, but its limited release meant that few got to see it in cinemas.

At least fans of the Snowpiercer series will finally get the closure they’ve been waiting for.
