The novel The Regulators is one of many Stephen King movie adaptations currently in the works. The word prolific would seem to do Stephen King a disservice. Over 60 novels and countless story collections and screenplays, the man’s work ethic is really quite something. There have been over 50 film adaptations of his work, with at least a dozen more in various stages of development. Now, we can add another to the packed slate with the news that The Regulators has been picked up for a movie adaptation. The official synopsis reads as follows: The Regulators is the story of the peaceful suburban life on Poplar Street in Wentworth, Ohio that is shattered one fine day when four vans containing shotgun-wielding “regulators” terrorize the street’s residents, cold-bloodedly killing anyone foolish enough to venture outdoors. Houses mysteriously transform into log cabins and the street now ends in what looks like a child’s hand-drawn western landscape. Masterminding this sudden onslaught is an evil creature who has taken over the body of an autistic boy whose parents were killed in a drive-by shooting several months earlier. The Bohemia Group acquired the rights, and although no director is attached, George Cowan has written a script that has been approved by King himself. More on this one as we hear it.
