Osgood Perkinsā€™ new film, following Longlegs, is The Monkey, spun from a Stephen King story. Hereā€™s the red band trailer.

Osgood Perkins is following up his success with Longlegs in 2024 with an early 2025 release: The Monkey, his spin on one of Stephen King’s classic short stories. It releases in UK cinemas on the 25th February and we have a new trailer to stoke our anticipation. A red band trailer at that, so no watching if youā€™re easily corrupted/scared/likely to complain to our boss.

Thereā€™s a solid line-up of horror talent assembled here that makes us hopeful that weā€™ll get a thrill ride to remember. As well as Oz Perkins, thereā€™s the backing of production company, Neon, which is on quite the roll at the moment; the source material of King, a horror master who needs no introduction; and James Wan, the legendary horror creator whoā€™s credited as producer.

In front of the camera, The Gentlemen's Theo James is on double duty as a pair of twins, with Tatiana Maslany, Elijah Wood, Christian Convery, Colin O’Brien, Rohan Campbell and Sarah Levy all supporting. Oh, and thereā€™s a toy monkey. And itā€™s terrifying.

After checking out the new trailer, weā€™re curious as to just where the tone of the film will lead. Perkins has previously described the film as having a Joe Dante or a Robert Zemeckis feel to it. If the newly-released reveal is anything to go by, it does seem to have that kind of tone.

Hopefully, the film is a success when it comes out and we can look forward to the sequel when the terrifying toy does battle with MEGAN 3.0 and the latest incarnation of Chucky.

Hereā€™s the synopsis for The Monkey:

When twin brothers Hal and Bill discover their father’s old monkey toy in the attic, a series of gruesome deaths starts occurring all around them. The brothers decide to throw the monkey away and move on with their lives, growing apart over the years. But when the mysterious deaths begin again, the brothers must reunite to find a way to destroy the monkey for good before it takes the lives of everyone close to them.
