A new version of Haunted Mansion is on the way from Disney, and here’s the first trailer.
Disney has had many successful films based on theme park rides, most recently the Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt blockbuster Jungle Cruise.
Back in 2003, it released The Haunted Mansion, based on one of its most popular attractions. Eddie Murphy led the film alongside Terence Stamp, Marsha Thomason and Nathaniel Parker. It did not go down well. Muppets Haunted Mansion was released on Disney+ in 2021. It did not go down that well either.
Now, Disney is rebooting the franchise. The new version will take a different approach from the first film. A single mother and her nine year old son move into the titular mansion and hire the services of a priest, a scientist, a psychic and a historian to exorcise the house.
Rosario Dawson will star in the film, alongside LaKeith Stanfield, Owen Wilson, Tiffany Haddish, Danny Devito, Jared Leto, Jamie Lee Curtis and Winona Ryder.
Justin Simien directs from a screenplay by Katie Dippold.
Haunted Mansion will be released on 11th August.
