Ted Lasso season 4 is edging closer, as Phil Dunster confirms that scripts are being written for season 4. More here.
There are few success stories as unlikely as Ted Lasso. Originating as a character Jason Sudeikis played to promote NBC Sports’ coverage of the Premier League in 2013, it was another four years before Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence came aboard to develop the series for Apple TV+. Sudeikis’ long-time friend and colleague Brendan Hunt and Joe Kelly were also among the creative team.
After three successful seasons, the show ended in 2023, wrapping up all the character arcs but leaving plenty of room for a continuation. We reported earlier this year that another season was all down to Jason Sudeikis.
Then Deadline reported that season 4 is much closer to production than we thought. It has renewed contracts with key cast members Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein and Jeremy Swift. The next step is to reach out to actors whose SAG-AFTRA contract options had expired.
Chortle reports that Phil Dunster, who plays Jamie Tartt, confirmed scripts are being written for season 4.
Speaking on the Always Be Comedy podcast, Dunster said, “It’s been greenlit to write another series. It’s been announced that series 4 is going to be a thing. There’s been a commission to write the fourth series, whether that ends up being a show, I don’t know. I don’t know any of that stuff.”
Still, head added that, “I don’t know if I’ll be in it. There are certain members of the cast who have been re-upped, as it were. But yeah, I mean it’s pretty good news I think in that it looks like it will happen. Season 4 is going be a thing. They start writing next year, I think. But yeah, other than that I don’t really know anything”.
Dunster is likely to have scheduling conflicts, as he is filming the new, currently untitled Bill Lawrence comedy, in which he will star opposite Steve Carrell.
He also revealed that his agents had discussions with James Bond producers about taking on the iconic role, but Dunster added that “they quite firmly shut the door.”
We’ll keep you updated as we hear more.
