Terrifier 3's Art the killer clown may have helped The Wild Robot towards an impressive box office haul, it seems.

Terrifier 3 is out in the world, making plenty of headlines and why wouldnā€™t it? From out-earning Joker: Folie A Deux in this weekendā€™s highly-touted battle of the killer clowns to releasing as an ā€˜unratedā€™ film in the US, bypassing any MPA stamping, the film has spawned plenty of talking points.

The filmā€™s successful release has been a masterstroke in marketing too, with it already earning around $30m globally from a $3m budget, with the folks behind the film vowing that the movieā€™s marketing spend hasnā€™t topped half a millon dollars. Whichever way you look at it, thatā€™s an astonishing return and means that Terrifier 4 is definitely happening.

Hereā€™s perhaps our favourite Terrifier 3 story to emerge from the filmā€™s success thus far.

Not only has the film helped itself to an impressive share of the box office, it may also have helped out one another film currently playing in US cinemas: The WIld Robot.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Two distribution sources noted over the weekend that DreamWorks Animation and Universal’s The Wild Robot saw a noticeable bump, and speculate that teenagers and tweens bought tickets to that film and then sneaked into Terrifier 3. The same trend continued on Monday’s Indigenous Peoples Day holiday.ā€™

Although the film is unrated in the US (and is now the highest-grossing unrated film ever), major US cinema chains have been using their common sense and refusing entry to those it deems to be too young, such as young teenagers. Apparently though, canny youngsters have been purchasing tickets to The Wild Robot and sneaking in to see Art the Clown conduct his symphony of bloody carnage anyway. Just how their parents used to do it, but will never admit to.

As such, The Wild Robot has seen a ā€˜noticeable bumpā€™ in ticket sales and good for that film, reviews are very strong so it deserves the fortune it gets. Plus, we imagine that audiences can travel in that direction too, right? If the gross-out mayhem of Terrifier 3 ever gets too much, audiences can slip into a screening of The Wild Robot and enjoy the soothing balm of a kid having adventures with a friendly robot. Everybody wins, we suppose.
