Director Damien Leone is busy writing Terrifier 4 and has revealed the sequel will delve into Art The Clown’s origin story.

It’s to think of another indie success story on quite the same level of the Terrifier franchise. The films, the first of which was made on a budget of just £35,000, have grossed well over £100m at the global box office. Art The Clown’s adventures have become a word-of-mouth phenomenon, and there’s no end in sight.

As the third film was heading into cinemas in October, director Damien Leone revealed during a Q&A that Terrifier 4 was already on the way and we’re slowly approaching it.

The director took to Twitter/X to thank fans for birthday wishes ā€“ the filmmaker turned 43 on 29th January ā€“ and shared a picture of the script for Terrifier 4, complete with blood splatter on the front cover.

Leone is currently working on said script, and says the sequel is “shaping up to be a most epic, thrilling, nasty, horrifying, emotional and utterly satisfying conclusion.” More horrifying than a certain, rat-related death in Terrifier 3? We’ll take Leone’s word for it.

The director also revealed that Terrifier 4 would reveal the origins of Art The Clown. So far, Art has been a mysterious, slightly supernatural presence in the three Terrifier films, but it seems Terrifier 4 will clarify where he comes from and what exactly he is.

Terrifier 3 garnered largely positive reviews, and even our very own Simon Brew seemed impressed by all the bloodletting and inventive ways the filmmakers found of hacking the human body into pieces. Another Terrifier film was inevitable, and we wait with nervous excitement to see what the next film will include.

There’s no release window for Terrifier 4 yet, but considering Terrifier 3 released only two years after Terrifier 2, Leone seems to work fast. Weā€™ll let you know when you can expect to be delightfully grossed-out by Art The Clownā€™s next shenanigans.
