Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II is moving forward with filming scheduled to start in Spring 2026.
We have been feverishly waiting for more news on The Batman Part II here at Film Stories headquarters. Matt Reeves’ sequel to his 2022 dark superhero movie has experienced several delays and in April we reported that filming could finally get underway in 2026.
Those news have now been confirmed and we’re one step closer to seeing Robert Pattinson’s man of bats on the big screen again.
As Deadline reports, Warner Bros. sent a letter to the company’s shareholders confirming the film’s production date. Release date is still set for 1st October and unless The Batman Part II experiences any more delays, should be able to make it.
The Batman Part II will continue Pattinson’s Batman’s story and Colin Farrell will also return as the Penguin. James Gunn, current godfather of the new DC Studios, has already confirmed that this Batman won’t be part of his DCU and will exist separately. There’s still no info if Barry Keoghan, who was briefly teased as the new Joker, will star in the new film. We also don’t know if Zoe Kravitz’s Catwoman will return, but we’d be surprised if she didn’t.
Plot details on The Batman Part II are pretty much non-existent. James Watkins’ Clayface is set to be released in 2026 and considering the character is often pitted against Batman, it’ll be interesting to see if he – it? – makes an appearance in the film.
Whatever Matt Reeves has cooked for us, we’re willing to bet it’s going to be worth the wait. Gunn recently told ScreenRant that he had readThe Batman Part II script and it was “great”. Gunn has been vocally supporting Reeves on social media, constantly battling and disproving rumours about the film’s numerous delays.
A rumour circulated not too long ago about Reeves failing to turn in the script by his deadline of Memorial Day, which Gunn denied on Threads. Despite The Batman existing in a separate universe from Gunn’s DCU, it’s great to see the studio head support Reeves so actively.
