Comedian Seann Walsh makes his feature film debut in The Bystanders, it will be released in UK cinemas in November.
Stand up comic Seann Walsh is to make his feature film debut in sci-fi comedy The Bystanders.
The film, described as “The Adjustment Bureau reimagined as an Ealing comedy with twisted echoes of Wim Wenders romantic angel fantasy Wings Of Desire” – there’s a sentence – takes place in a world where invisible immortals watch over humans and intervene in (or interfere with) their lives. Pete (Scott Haran), a new Bystander being shown the ropes by Walsh’s world-weary tutor Frank, who is mostly irritated by the humans they watch. For fun, Frank suggests they swap their charges.”
Haran and Walsh star alongside fellow comedians Marek Larwood and Nick Helm, with Inbetweeners star David Schaal, Lauren Douglin, Frank Harper, Caroline Ginty, Emily Milburn, Tom Clegg and Lucy Pinder completing the ensemble.
Gabriel Foster Prior directs from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jack Hughes, who previously collaborated with Walsh to make online series The Drunk.
The Bystanders will be released in UK cinemas on the 3rd November. Furthermore, it’s going on a tour as well. A series of preview screenings featuring a Q&A with Prior and various members of cast and crew are happening in Manchester on 17th October, Brighton on the 18th October and London on the 3rd November. Tickets for those screenings are now on sale. It’s refreshing and rare to see an independent British comedy getting such a push. Long may that continue.
