The brand new movie based on the videogame Mortal Kombat is edging closer to release ā€“ and a taster of it has been put into the world. The upcoming Mortal Kombat film adaptation is based on the popular video game franchise that first emerged back in the 1990s. Whilst weā€™ve seen a couple of attempts before to turn the seriesā€™ violent fisticuffs into a movie, Warner Bros and New Lineā€™s upcoming version looks like it might be the definitive take. Whether that turns out to be the case or not, unlike our US chums who get the film in cinemas and on the HBO Max streaming platform later this week, here in the UK weā€™ll have to wait a while longer to see it. Presumably, when cinemas reopen weā€™ll be able to satiate our thirst for fatalities and acts of bone-crunching pugilism, but sadly, no release date is yet confirmed for the UK. However, Warner Bros has released the first seven minutes of the film online, featuring a scene between two iconic Mortal Kombat characters, Scorpion and Sub-Zero, before they adopted the personas that we know so well. The scene details the roots of their legendary rivalry, and is all weā€™ll be getting, for the moment at least. When we hear of a release date, weā€™ll certainly let you know. In the meantime, check out the scene below and weā€™ll leave you with the filmā€™s synopsis: MMA fighter Cole Young (Lewis Tan), accustomed to taking a beating for money, is unaware of his heritage-or why Outworldā€™s Emperor Shang Tsung (Chin Han) has sent his best warrior, Sub-Zero (Joe Taslim), an otherworldly Cryomancer, to hunt Cole down. Fearing for his familyā€™s safety, Cole goes in search of Sonya Blade (Jessica McNamee) at the direction of Jax (Mehcad Brooks), a Special Forces Major who bears the same strange dragon marking Cole was born with. Soon, he finds himself at the temple of Lord Raiden (Tadanobu Asano), an Elder God and the protector of Earthrealm, who grants sanctuary to those who bear the mark. Here, Cole trains with experienced warriors Liu Kang (Ludi Lin), Kung Lao (Max Huang) and rogue mercenary Kano (Josh Lawson), as he prepares to stand with Earthā€™s greatest champions against the enemies of Outworld in a high stakes battle for the universe. But will Cole be pushed hard enough to unlock his arcana-the immense power from within his soul-in time to save not. ā€” Thank you for visiting! If youā€™d like to support our attempts to make a non-clickbaity movie website: Follow Film Stories on Twitter here, and on Facebook here.
