Sing-Along Cinema is bringing the hit musical Wicked to theatres and concert halls across the UK. More info below.
In the past, we’ve been clear on our stance on singing in cinemas. Dwayne Johnson encouraged audiences to sing during screenings of Moana 2 last year, while Wicked star Cynthia Erivo also approved of people belting out ‘Defying Gravity’ and ‘Popular’ if they felt the urge. We’ve remained slightly cold about such actions, though. After all, aren’t we there to enjoy the talent on screen rather than the lad in the row behind us?
That being said, we’re big fans of Sing-Along screenings, where you absolutely can warble as much as you want. If you’ve been patiently waiting for an opportunity to sing along to Erivo in Wicked with some great acoustics, we’ve got good news for you.
Sing-Along Cinema is taking Wicked on a tour of the UK. The events will take place in theatres and concert halls rather than traditional cinemas, and shows begin on 20th April, running through the spring and summer until September. You even get a special gift bag. Tickets will go on sale on 7th March and the experience will begin in Cardiff.

The company promises to provide an “unforgettable screening event”. The screenings will take place on the weekends and school holidays to make sure everyone gets to attend and enjoy Wicked. If you’ve never been to a sing-along event, they’re usually lovely experiences with a real sense of community as people bond over their love of the film and the songs.
Wicked was one of the biggest success stories of 2024. Jon M Chu’s long-awaited musical adaptation was a hit among critics and audiences alike, and the film just won two Oscars – Best Costume Design and Best Production Design. Erivo and her co-star Ariana Grande opened the show singing ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’ from The Wizard Of Oz, ‘Home’ from The Wiz and ’Defying Gravity’ from Wicked. The pair received a standing ovation from the crowd and some of us may have shed a tear or two at home.
