Wind River 2 has begun shooting in Canada, although it doesn’t appear to be a straight follow-up to the 2017 original: more details here.

Now here’s a surprise. Taylor Sheridan’s Wind River was a fine film that got lost a little in the fall of Harvey Weinstein. Made for The Weinstein Company, Sheridan had a battle to get the film back off the convicted rapist, and it got lost in its year’s awards race as its profile fell a little. A shame: it’s a very good film.

And now, six years later, it’s getting a sequel. Wind River: The Next Chapter is the name of it, although there’s not too much connective tissue between it and the original. Martin Sensmeier seems to be the only member of the cast returning, with instead Jason Clarke, Scott Eastwood and Chaske Spencer headlining.

Kari Skogland is directing. Her highest profile project to date has arguably been Marvel’s The Falcon & The Winter Soldier. Patrick Massett and John Zinman have penned the script.

Filming has kicked off in Canada, in the Calgary area. As we hear more, we’ll let you know.
