Russell T Davies will be telling stories from Doctor Who, Why Don’t You, Chucklevision and more, in his upcoming memoir.

Hot off the release of his acclaimed Channel 4 drama Tip Toe – as well as the news that he’s departing his role as showrunner of Doctor Who – Russell T Davies has now announced his autobiography.

Entited The Queerest Of Folk: A Life In Television, he’s penned this along with Boyd Hilton. And it’s going to cover, as the title suggests, his work for the small screen. What’s more, it’s going to go right up to date, with his second stint on Doctor Who, in the Disney+ era, likely to be of particular interest.

Davies’ previous book, The Writer’s Tale – written with Benjamin Cook – remains an absolute must-read, both for fans of Doctor Who, and also for those even vaguely interested in the process of writing.

This time, we also get – yes! – his work on Chucklevision right through to his Time Lord days. As per his Instagram, Davies has completed the manuscript, and Penguin will be releasing it in October.

The book has gone up for preorder in fact, with a release date of 8th October 2026.

You can find the Kindle version available for preorder here.

And the hardback can be found here.

More in due course. The synopsis, in the meantime, reads as follows.

The Queerest of Folk distils Russell T Davies's career in television, taking us from his early days working on children’s shows and soaps through to the giddy heights of relaunching Doctor Who and bringing queer relationships onto the mainstream screen.

We’re offered a glimpse into the imagination of one of Britain’s most celebrated writers – what it is to feel the spark and flood and burn of ideas popping into your head – coupled with the day-to-day business of meetings and pitches, the frustrations and the hoots, over a career that has spanned five decades.

This is a memoir fizzing with a love for television and the power it has to draw us together in an increasingly fragmented world.

Preorders are now open…
