Matt Stone and Trey Parker’s Team America: World Police is debuting on the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray format: more here.

For their cinematic follow up to South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut, writers and directors Trey Parker and Matt Stone decided it’d be a good idea to make a film with puppets. As we covered in a Film Stories podcast episode before (we, er, twinned it with Michael Bay’s Pearl Harbor), they would soon appreciate just how difficult it was to do.

The film that resulted from their labours was Team America: World Police, a brutally funny comedy action satire, with some memorable songs in the midst of it too. Originally released in 2004, to now mark the 20th birthday of the film, it’s got a 4K makeover, and is coming to the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray format for the first time.

We’ve got Paramount to thank for this, who is issuing the film on 24th June 2024 on the format. You can find more information on the release, and order a copy, right here.

It comes bundled with a Blu-ray as well as a 4K disc in the box as well, so that indicates that previous extra features are also going to be bundled in with it as well. All subject to confirmation, of course.

If you’re unfamiliar with the film, well crikey. You’ve got something quite different in store. Here’s the synopsis for what lies ahead…

Using puppetry techniques inspired by Gerry Anderson’s Supermarionation sagas, “South Park” creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone skewer U.S. politics and celebrity activism with their hilarious and controversial satire about a high-tech international law enforcement agency that recruits a renowned Broadway thespian to help them mount a series of ill-conceived anti-terrorist campaigns. Parker and Stone provide voices along with Kristen Miller and Daran Norris.

The 4K disc is available to pre-order now.
