Alfonso Cuaron is the latest director rumoured to be tackling James Bond 26 following Amazonās recent takeover.
Just last week we learned that Amazon Studios was looking towards David Heyman and Amy Pascal as producers for the companyās planned reinvention of the 007 franchise. Ever since news emerged that Barbara Brocolli was stepping back from a creative role on the James Bond series, speculation has been rife regarding who would lead Bond 26 into production. With Heyman and Pascalās rumoured appointment, we now have a potential answer.
GIven that Amazon reportedly wants a new Bond film in cinemas by 2027, the pair are going to have to get their skates on and quickly appoint a new director. With Christopher Nolan out of the frame due to his commitments on The Odyssey, the speculation throughout March has really focused on two names: Conclave director Edward Berger and Children Of Men helmer Alfonso Cuaron.
This past weekend, Puck's Matt Belloni has made what he calls an āinformed guessā, claiming that it is indeed Alfonso Cuaron who will get the nod.
Belloni has a pretty good track record with these types of predictions too. Although he wouldnāt name his sources for the prediction, he did point out that David Heyman and Cuaron have a strong professional relationship, stretching back as far as 2004ās Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban. The duo also worked together on 2013ās Gravity, both of which were very successful blockbusters encompassing huge productions and feats of technical wizardry.
Belloni adds that Cuaron has met with Amazon and pitched a take on what the next era of James Bond could look like. A report surfaced earlier this month, claiming sight of an internal Amazon memo which stipulates that Bond will remain British and male going forward. Beyond that, weāre still pretty much in the dark, but after years of rumours and guesswork, it feels like concrete news will be fairly imminent ā assuming Heyman and Pascalās appointment is confirmed.
Should Cuaronās appointment also be confirmed in the coming days, weāll let you know. He certainly seems to be the frontrunner at this point. Given that heās already revealed that he turned down the chance to direct 2008ās Quantum Of Solace, what kind of a 007 film might we see from the director (who hasnāt made a feature since 2018ās Roma)?
Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, and weāll bring you more on this one as we hear it.
