Expect a bitrate reduction of around 25% when Disney+ launches in the UK tomorrow.
The strain on the broadband infrastructure has already seen Netflix and Prime Video cede to a request from the European Commission to reduce the default quality of their output. That the video quality has been dialled down around 25% it’s believe, to help reduce the amount of data being fired around broadband lines.
Now, a similar request has gone out to Disney+, which launched in the UK tomorrow. And Disney too has agreed to cut the bitrate of its material across the markets that it’s launching into this week, the UK included.
In France, it’s gone a step further, agreeing to a request from the French government to delay the launch of the service entirely by two weeks. Thus, customers in France will not now have access to Disney+ until April 7th.
The UK launch proceeds otherwise as planned. Tomorrow’s the day…
