The busy director of Shawn Of The Dead, Edgar Wright, is said to be in talks to direct a reimagining of the 1968 classic, Barbarella.

Let’s add another possible Edgar Wright movie onto the towering stack of projects that are already on his to-do list. Industry insider Daniel Richtman (via World of Reel) is reporting that Wright is in line to helm the Barbarella remake that was announced late last year and is set to star The White Lotus’ Sydney Sweeney.

We can certainly see how in the wake of Barbie's meteoric success, a remake of Barbarella might have suddenly become an even more attractive proposition: in fact, the original film’s star, Jane Fonda has repeatedly claimed that she pushed its producer, Dino De Laurentiis to make a feminist take many times but he always refused.

While we’ve known for some time that Sweeney is set to play the titular space adventurer – who’s sent on a mission to retrieve a scientist in what was a campy and erotic sci-fi film – it’s now emerging that Edgar Wright may be in line to direct. We can see how the British filmmaker might be pitch-perfect for a Barbarella remake – although, again, he has a lot on his plate already.

Wright is reportedly set to shoot The Chain whenever the actors’ strike ends. That one’s some sort of thriller about a mother whose daughter has been kidnapped – the twist being that in order to get said daughter back, the mother will have to kidnap someone else’s offspring.

Elsewhere, there’s take on the Stephen King novella, The Running Man which is slowly moving closer to fruition. There’s also his next collaboration with Simon Pegg in the mix too. We love the sound of all of those projects, and we’re glad we don’t have to be the one deciding which order they come in. We’ll bring you more on this one as we hear it.
