Ben Affleck has been talking about the downside of playing Batman, and the costume he had to wear. As if it was a surprise.
The rule of playing Batman on the big screen is that in exchange for wearing a cumbersome and uncomfortable suit, you get to look like Batman. A decent trade off, but one that actors have constantly wrestled with.
Adam West, for one, wanted more scenes as Bruce Wayne when it came to 1966โs Batman: The Movie, so fed up was he of wearing Batmanโs mask. Michael Keaton, in the Tim Burton era, struggled to move his neck at one stage. Clooney ended up with tits.
Now add to the list of unhappy Batmen Mr Ben Affleck, whoโs on the promotional trail for The Accountant 2 at the moment. Chatting to GQ, Affleck was steered off the subject of the film in question, and back to his Batman days, where he was Zack Snyderโs choice to be the Dark Knight. And guess what? He hated the suit! Who could have guessed?
โI hated the Batsuitsโ, he told the outlet. โThe Batsuits are horrendous to wear. Theyโre hot for one thing. They donโt breathe. Theyโre made to look the way they want them to look. Thereโs no thought put into the human being. So what happens is that you just start sweating. Iโm already โ I sweat, you know what I mean? So in that thing, youโd just be pouring water.โ
They should cast Prince Andrew if no sweating is the criteria.
Affleck did argue that the heat and the sweat made it difficult to make films such as Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice and Justice League, given how physically uncomfortable he was left feeling. The cape and cowl has since been passed on to Robert Pattinson, but we have no update with regards his levels of sweat. Still think that Peter Weller might have a word with them all, given the discomfort he endured making the original RoboCop.
The Accountant 2 is a film Iโve not seen, incidentally, so have no idea if Affleck puts fancy outfits in it. The first was light on such fetish wear.
