Director Ben Wheatley is taking his latest film, BULK, on a tour of UK and Irish cinemas large and small in January and February 2026.

The latest film from British director Ben Wheatley, BULK looks like an absolutely mind-boggling evening at the pictures. Starring Sam Riley and Alexandra Maria Lara, it’s an indie sci-fi thriller in the mode of Primer and Alphaville according to its creator, but there are also moments of sheer weirdness that wouldn’t look out of place in Monty Python or Rick And Morty.

Shot largely in handsome monochrome (like Wheatley’s others surreal masterwork, A Field In England), BULK sees Sam Riley’s character, Corey Harlan, sent to a mysterious location where a scientist’s experiments have somehow messed up reality. Exploring what initially looks like an ordinary house, only to discover that its doors take him to unexpected places in time and space.

Having made its debut at the Edinburgh Film Festival this year, BULK is due to go on a Q&A tour of UK cinemas in January and February 2026. And, true to a film that is all about the unexpected, it’ll be appearing in both smaller boutique theatres and on huge IMAX screens.

โ€œBULK is a multidimensional sci-fi adventure,” Wheatley said in a release, “and the tour will be a multidimensional venue trip around the UK- from its smallest and weirdest cinemas to its biggest. BULK is a very personal film for me and made with a spirit of true independence, so we wanted to be able to share it and talk about it with the audiences at the UK independent cinemas.โ€

There’s also a new clip, which gives you an idea of the trippy experience Wheatley has in store. In the space of just two minutes, Wheatley somehow manages to encompass the feel of Godard, a nod to an infamous ‘Protect and Survive’ public information film, and the captivating sight of Noah Taylor machine gunning a disembodied head firing lasers out of its eyes.

Now this is cinema.
