David Tennant has been announced as the host of the 2024 BAFTA Film Awards. The ceremony will take place on 18th February in London.
David Tennant is starting the year off with a bang. The Doctor Who star has just been announced as the host for the BAFTA Film Awards.
The ceremony, which will see the crème de la crème of Hollywood descend on London for a night of glamour and gongs, will take place at the Royal Festival Hall in London on Sunday 18th February.
BAFTAs are largely seen as the overseas cousin of the Oscars, which are due to be handed out in March. Oppenheimer, Barbie, Poor Things and All Of Us Strangers are expected to be among the nominees, and those nominations will likely mirror the upcoming Oscar nominations.
Former EE Rising Star Award nominees Naomi Ackie and Kingsley Ben-Adir will be announcing the BAFTA nominations on Thursday 18th January.
While the BAFTAs are designed to celebrate British films and one of the night’s top prizes includes Best British Film, the ceremony has focused increasingly on Hollywood’s output in recent years.
The 2023 Awards proved to be a delightful anomaly in terms of winners. Best British Film went to The Banshees Of Inisherin while All Quiet On The Western Front took home Best Film in a surprise upset over eventual Oscar Best Picture winner Everything Everywhere All At Once.
“I am delighted to have been asked to host the EE BAFTA Film Awards and help celebrate the very best of this year’s films and the many brilliant people who bring them to life,” Tennant said in a statement.
“We are over the moon that David Tennant will be our host for the 2024 EE BAFTA Film Awards,” said Jane Millichip, CEO of BAFTA. “He is deservedly beloved by British and international audiences, alike. His warmth, charm and mischievous wit will make it a must-watch show next month for our guests at the Royal Festival Hall and the millions of people watching at home.”
You can watch the EE BAFTA Film Awards on BBC One or BBC iPlayer on Sunday 18th February.
