Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has confirmed that a sequel to the Oscar-nominated F1: The Movie is indeed happening.
Veteran producer Jerry Bruckheimer has confirmed that F1: The Movie is indeed getting a sequel – roughly a week after bosses at Apple and the F1 Group publicly played coy about its likelihood.
The BBC caught up with Bruckheimer at some sort of Academy Awards lunch – the kind of glitzy event where everyone has to pretend not to be hungry even though there are silver platters of snacks in every direction.
Bruckheimer said, “We’re working on a sequel,” which is a bit more direct than F1 boss Stefano Domenicali’s “stay tuned” line from the other day.
The producer was still coy about specifics, though, including the question of whether Brad Pitt will return as the nomadic and dangerously irresponsible racing driver, Sonny Hayes.

Bruckheimer did, however, mention other things he has on the go, including a UFO movie reported on a few months ago, Michael Mann’s Heat 2, and another Pirates Of The Caribbean flick. Sticking with cars, though, he also mentioned that he still wants to make a sequel to 1990’s Days Of Thunder.
We’ve heard before that the producer was mulling a potential crossover between that Tom Cruise vehicle and Sonny Hayes’ antics. It’s just possible, then, that we might see Cruise’s Cole Trickle and F1: The Movie's antihero share a NASCAR track at some point soon. If so, expect Hayes to blatantly, dangerously cheat.
