Freaky Friday 2 is officially in production and Chad Michael Murray and Mark Harmon are due to appear alongside Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan.
The last update we gave you on the Freaky Friday sequel, which we’ll call Freaky Friday 2 here, was in April and it wasn’t quite clear whether the long-awaited sequel would be getting a theatrical release or going straight to streaming.
Well, we know now. Freaky Friday 2 is officially going into cinemas in 2025! Disney took to social media to share the news and announce the start of production with a photo of Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan in front of their trailers on set.
The 2003 film followed Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan), an explosive mother-daughter duo who ended up switching bodies by accident, leading to all kinds of mayhem.
The Hollywood Reporter also has some exciting casting news for the sequel. Chad Michael Murray and Mark Harmon, who played the love interests of Lohan and Curtis’ characters, are also due to return for the sequel.
Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky and Rosalind Chao, all of whom appeared in the 2003 original, will also appear in the new film. New cast members include Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, Manny Jacinto and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan.
Here’s the sequel’s synopsis from Disney: A sequel to the beloved 2003 film with a multigenerational twist, the film picks up years after Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan) endured an identity crisis. Anna now has a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. As they navigate the myriad challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might indeed strike twice.
