Post strikes, Michael B Jordan is still set to feature alongside Will Smith in the sequel to the 2007 hit, I Am Legend.
Will Smith has appeared at the Red Sea International Film Festival over the weekend, where he confirmed that I Am Legend 2 is still happening.
Whatās more, he also confirmed the name of his co-star for the project, and itās still Michael B Jordan.
There was talk of Jordan ā star of the Creed movies and plenty of other high-profile successes ā doing the film back when it was first announced in early March of last year. Then the Oscars slap happened a couple of weeks later, Smithās career took a nosedive, and lots of people assumed that I Am Legend 2 might not happen.
Jordan, meanwhile, has since made his directorial debut with Creed III, and is confirmed as the director (and star of course) of Creed IV as well. His schedule is not an empty one.
Earlier this year, however, Smith confirmed that the film was still happening ā but then the strikes began, throwing Hollywood into six months of chaos. Given the projectās turbulent journey thus far, you might be forgiven for wondering if it had fallen by the wayside, or at the very least shed a star or two. But that appears not to be the case according to Smith, who confirmed that Jordan is still involved and that the script is now in their hands:
“I have a call with Michael B Jordan tomorrow,ā Smith said in a story picked up by Screen Daily. āThe script just came in… I’m probably giving away too much information.”
For anybody who might be a confused how Smithās character can even appear in a sequel given how the first film plays out, the actor added that, “we’re going with the mythology of the DVD version where my character lived. I can’t tell you any more but Michael B Jordan is in and we’re doing it.”
When though, is another matter.
Not only is Michael B Jordan a busy guy, but the projectās proposed director (who also directed the first film), Francis Lawrence, has a pretty full slate too. Lawrence has a sequel to 2005’s Constantine, a newly-announced adaptation of Stephen King’s The Long Walk and an adaptation of the BioShock video game on his to-do list, along with that I Am Legend sequel. Weāre guessing heās setting his alarm clock extra-early at the moment.
Weāll bring you more on I Am Legend 2 as we hear it.
