Idris Elba will sit in the director’s chair again for This Is How It Goes, a big screen adaptation of Neil LaBute’s This Is How It Goes.
After releasing his directorial debut Yardie in 2018, Idris Elba has mostly focused on appearing in front of the camera rather than behind it. The film was met with mixed reviews at the time, but Elba is getting back into the groove of directing with a new project on the horizon.
Variety has shared the news that Elba is due to direct an adaptation of Neil LaBute’s play This Is How It Goes. The play, a psychological thriller, follows an interracial love triangle, as two high school sweethearts, Cody and Belinda, rent their spare room to an old school friend, Man.
Elba previously starred in the play with Ben Chaplin and Megan Dodds in the West End in 2005 as Cody. According to Variety, Elba will also play a role in the film but not as Cody.
Nathaniel Price will write the screenplay and Apple Original Films is behind the project. Elba’s production company 22summers will collaborate with Gaumont to produce the film.
This Is How It Goes is just one of three movies Elba is helming. The actor has also co-directed Above The Below with Martin Owen which follows three astronauts stuck in their capsule as it sinks in the ocean. Elba is also directing Infernus, a thriller about a human rights activist who is investigating potentially illegal detainings at a US prison, but when inmates break free, things turn deadly. Elba stars in both projects, neither of which has a release date at the moment.
Elba will next be seen in Kathryn Bigelow’s A House Of Dynamite which just premiered at the Venice Film Festival to positive reviews and will be released in cinemas on 3rd October before streaming on Netflix on 24th October.
