Lawrence Of Arabia is becoming slightly more affordable on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray as of February of this year. More here.
It was all the way back in June 2020 that Sony released its first Columbia Classics collection of 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release. This was a boxset of six films new to the 4K format, with Dr Strangelove, Gandhi, Jerry Maguire, Mr Smith Goes To Washington and A League Of Their Own amongst its contents. That, and the small matter of Lawrence Of Arabia.
The boxset sold out quickly, and over five years on, people are selling them on eBay for – genuinely – thousands. The artificial buoyed by the fact that most of the films in the set have never – apart from one or two Steelbook issues – been made available individually.
The transfer for the Lawrence Of Arabia disc is quite something too, and for those who don’t like considering a mortgage to buy their discs, Sony is finally releasing it as a regularly-priced standalone edition.
Scheduled in the UK for 9th February 2026, David Lean’s movie is one hell of a film, one I only watched for the first time a few years back. Peter O’Toole is in the title role, a performance that basically ignited his career. It’s an absolute epic of a movie.
The new disc is up for preorder now, and you can find it – and gleam further information – right here.
Given that the running time is just shy of four hours, you’re not getting much in the way of extra features on the Lawrence Of Arabia disc, at least not according to the information we have thus far. That may change.
Here’s hoping the rest of the films on that original set become available at a more reasonable price over the coming months. Not least because it’s one in the eye for the scalpers who are doing physical media no good whatsoever.
Our 4K release list is here.
